What’s Your Nutrition IQ?

One of the things I do most frequently with my patients is give them a nutrition quiz.  I always want to see where they are with their general nutrition knowledge.  That way I’m aware of what they already know and where I can help fill in the knowledge gaps.  It’s important to me that I arm my patients with the knowledge and skills so that they feel 100% confident going out and making healthy choices after their surgery. The quiz I give my patients is 4 pages long.  I guess that’s really more of a test than a quiz.  But I work through it with them, explaining each answer and why that answer is the most correct.  It never fails that each time I give out this “quiz” my patients tell me how much they’ve learned.  Which is awesome…because that’s the whole point.  But I know my patients aren’t the only ones who need a little nutrition knowledge brush up.  We all probably could (even me!).  So I came up with a list of questions (some are a little tough) so you can see how much you know!  Get your thinking caps on….and begin!

6.  True or False.  Thirst is an accurate indicator of the body’s need for fluids.
7.  True or False.  The DRIs (Daily Recommended Intakes) are set at a level high enough to meet the needs of most healthy people.
8.  True or False.  Healthy adults should try to obtain 30% of their total daily calorie intake from protein.

9.  A type of oil that contains mostly monounsaturated fat is:

c.  Grapeseed oil
d.  Coconut oil

10.  True or False.  Coconut, palm and palm kernel oils are rich sources of cholesterol.
11.  True or False.  We typically eat more protein than we need for good health.

Well?  How’d you do?  Was it hard?  I’m thinking it might have been a little tough!  But I know my readers are pretty smart, so no easy questions from me!  But hopefully you learned a few things!  And now…go quiz your co-workers!

Answers:  1) True 2) True 3) True 4)5)6) False  7)  True  8) False  9)  B  10)  False  11) True
